Volkswagen has initiated a recall for 22,524 ID.4 electric SUVs produced between 2023 and 2026. The company issued this safety notice following an ongoing internal review of battery performance in vehicles not covered by previous recall campaigns.

The manufacturer identified a risk of thermal propagation, which could lead to battery fires if the vehicle is charged beyond 80% capacity. While the root cause remains under investigation, Volkswagen is currently seeking technical clarifications from its battery cell supplier, SK Battery America.

Between January 18, 2024, and August 7, 2026, the automaker recorded 22 claims related to the issue in the United States. Owners are advised to limit charging to 80% until a permanent technical remedy is developed and released.

Official notification letters regarding the safety risks are scheduled for distribution on November 27, 2026. The recall is registered under the internal code 93EX and the NHTSA campaign number 26V630.
