Ford has teased its upcoming Fathom electric pickup truck, which was recently spotted in a camouflaged prototype form outside the company's headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. The vehicle is the first model built on the new Universal Electric Vehicle platform, which Ford claims represents a significant shift from its previous electric vehicle generations.

The Fathom is set to launch with a starting MSRP of $28,350 for the standard-range model. Including the $1,595 delivery fee, the total price remains under $30,000. Ford plans to open official preorders in early 2027, with the first customer deliveries projected to begin by the end of that year.

The truck will feature lithium iron phosphate batteries to manage costs and maximize interior space. Ford states the vehicle will offer more interior room than a Toyota RAV4, excluding the front trunk and cargo bed. The manufacturer also asserts that the total cost of ownership over five years will be lower than that of a three-year-old used Tesla Model Y.

Technological features include an integrated Apple Maps navigation system, BlueCruise capability for hands-free driving, and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The vehicle is equipped with a front-mounted sensor for driver-assist functions and includes bidirectional charging. A prototype was previously observed using a Tesla Supercharger, confirming the inclusion of an NACS port.
