The Ford F-150 Lightning, which launched in 2022, is seeing a surge in demand on the secondary market. One owner recently reported selling their truck to Carvana for a price nearly equal to the original purchase cost. This trend contrasts with the vehicle's initial performance, as Ford previously paused production due to low sales and scheduled a full production stop for December 2025.
Market dynamics have shifted as used prices for the electric pickup have dropped to 50–60 percent of the original sticker price. Jimmy Douglas, CEO of the wholesale dealer Plug, noted that this price range makes the truck an attractive option for consumers compared to the initial starting price, which rose from $40 000 to $50 000 shortly after launch.
Ford is currently developing a successor to the F-150 Lightning, which will feature an extended-range electric powertrain. This upcoming model will include an onboard gasoline generator designed to charge the battery, providing an estimated range of over 700 miles. The company expects to release this vehicle before the next-generation F-150, which is scheduled for the end of the decade.
