General Motors has reportedly halted or canceled plans to expand the Corvette brand into a broader lineup of electric vehicles. The automaker had been exploring the development of several new models based on its corporate BEV Prime platform, though these projects were never officially confirmed.
The canceled lineup included an electric SUV intended to compete with the Porsche Cayenne, a two-door electric sports car, and a four-door fastback sedan. Sources indicate that the decision to scrap these vehicles may be linked to the underperformance of the company's current electric vehicle portfolio.
The shift in strategy follows the company's previous focus on an all-electric transition, which occurred at the expense of hybrid development across its wider range. While the electric Corvette projects are currently shelved, the report notes that the broader concept of a Corvette SUV may still be under internal consideration, potentially with different powertrain configurations.
