Tesla plans to wind down production of the Cybertruck at its Texas gigafactory by the middle of 2027. The company is reallocating manufacturing capacity to increase the production of its Cybercab robotaxi.

Elon Musk announced the decision on the X platform on November 6. The company has not confirmed if production will be relocated to another facility or discontinued entirely.

The Cybertruck was introduced in 2019 with initial sales projections of 250 000 vehicles annually. Deliveries of the pickup began in late 2023.

According to Cox Automotive, Tesla sold 38 965 Cybertrucks in the United States in 2024 and 20 237 units in 2025, representing a 48% decline.

The shift reflects Tesla's strategic pivot toward autonomous transportation. The Cybercab is a two-seat vehicle designed for a robotaxi network rather than traditional consumer sales.
