Ukrainian authorities have initiated the development of a domestic satellite communication system. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the project during a press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, noting that the initiative is currently in its early stages.
The decision to pursue an independent satellite network follows reports of restricted access to the Starlink service for specific military operations. Details regarding the technical specifications, launch providers, or orbital deployment strategies for the future Ukrainian satellites remain undisclosed.
The demand for satellite connectivity in Ukraine remains high. According to forecasts from Veon, the user base for Starlink services in the country was projected to reach approximately 12 million people by the end of the year.
