Yota subscribers have gained access to 5G networks across ten Russian cities, including Moscow and St. Petersburg. The announcement was made by Anton Gorelkin, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy.
Gorelkin emphasized that the significance of 5G extends beyond internet speed. The technology is critical for industrial automation, autonomous transport, private enterprise networks, and managing thousands of simultaneous device connections.
The official launch of 5G in Russia took place in mid-September 2026. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin recently urged for an accelerated transition to domestic telecommunications equipment to support the development of these networks.
The next strategic goal involves building a fully Russian technological base, which includes the production and deployment of thousands of local devices. Telecom operators anticipate that 5G will initially see higher demand within the corporate sector compared to individual users.
