President Donald Trump announced the creation of an AI Force and the appointment of a dedicated AI czar to oversee the industry. This initiative aims to centralize artificial intelligence policy under a single authority, following the model of the previous dual AI and cryptocurrency mandate.
The new effort expands on the US Tech Force initiative launched on December 15, 2025, which aimed to recruit approximately 1,000 AI engineers for federal agencies. Companies such as AWS and Apple are already collaborating with the government on this program.
David Sacks served as the White House AI and cryptocurrency czar from December 5, 2024, until March 2026. During his tenure, he advocated for a light-touch regulatory approach, which included the retraction of a proposed executive order in May 2026 that would have required extended federal reviews of advanced AI models.
Executive Order 14179, signed on January 23, 2025, was established to remove barriers to American AI leadership and create a unified national policy framework. As of September 2026, the administration continues to reject additional regulatory guardrails, prioritizing rapid development over mandatory safety reviews.
