The United States is actively promoting the adoption of the term Super Intelligence (SI) to replace the widely used Artificial Intelligence (AI) in international discourse. Washington aims to incorporate this new terminology into the consensus statement of the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC).

Erin Browne, the U.S. Treasury Department's Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Affairs, stated at the IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok that SI more accurately describes the emerging technology. The U.S. government has already mandated that federal agencies transition to the new term.

As the current G20 chair, the U.S. is pushing for broader international acceptance of the SI label. Analysts suggest that this shift is part of a broader struggle over AI governance, the establishment of international standards, and geopolitical influence.

If a consensus on the terminology is not reached, the IMFC chair, who is the Saudi Minister of Finance, may issue a summary statement. Alternatively, the committee might adopt neutral language, such as referring to the technology as new technology, to avoid using either SI or AI.
