Toyota has initiated a recall for 8,521 units of the 2026 C-HR electric crossover due to a software error in the battery protection logic. The flaw can lead to battery overcharging, potentially causing a loss of motive power while driving.

The issue was identified in April during testing of an undisclosed future battery electric vehicle model. The defect is most likely to occur in low temperatures when the battery is highly charged and the regenerative braking system is used extensively.

Toyota reports no warranty claims or field incidents related to this software fault. Dealers will resolve the issue by updating the electronic control unit, with customer notifications scheduled for October 18.

Separately, Toyota is recalling 135 vehicles, including the 2024 Tacoma, 2025 Tundra, 2026 4Runner, and RAV4, due to incorrect load carrying capacity labels. The error stemmed from inaccurate accessory weight data in company systems.
