The Mach Initiative has developed a series of 3D-printed remote-controlled aircraft, starting with the Kinglet prototype, which utilized an electric ducted fan. The team subsequently built the Kingfisher, a jet-powered model featuring a Jetcat P60 engine with 63 N m of thrust, capable of reaching speeds of 330 km/h.
The latest iteration, the 9 kg Kingchaser, is designed to reach Mach 0.8, or 988 km/h, to challenge existing speed records. The aircraft is constructed primarily from PETG, with an engine housing made of PPS-CF reinforced with carbon fiber, aluminum, and steel. Titanium exhaust sheets and aluminum tape provide heat shielding.
To manage high-speed flight, the Kingchaser features a carbon fiber internal structure, a full avionics telemetry system, and an FPV setup. The control surfaces are operated by 70 kg-cm high-torque servos. The team has not yet announced a date for the official record-breaking attempt.
