Tesla showcased its next-generation Roadster at an event in Waco, Texas. The demonstration featured the electric supercar accelerating to 60 mph in under one second, driving upside down, and briefly flying. The vehicle is expected to enter production in 2028.

The project was first announced in 2017 with initial performance targets of 0-60 mph in 1.9 seconds, a top speed exceeding 250 mph, and a 200 kWh battery providing a range of 620 miles. The starting price was set at $200 000, with early deposits ranging from $50 000 to $250 000.

Development faced multiple delays as Tesla prioritized mass-market models like the Model Y and the Cybertruck. Elon Musk noted that the vehicle features a SpaceX package with cold-gas thrusters. He described the project as a collaboration between Tesla and SpaceX.

Musk stated that the Roadster will not significantly impact Tesla's financial performance. Analysts suggest the release may be intended to prepare for a potential merger between Tesla and SpaceX. Meanwhile, competitors like Rimac, Porsche, and BYD have launched high-performance electric vehicles.
