Tesla has scheduled the official unveiling of its new Roadster for October 1 at an event near Waco, Texas. This follows an initial announcement of the vehicle in 2017, with production delays spanning over eight years.
A recent teaser indicates that the production model will feature a 'Cyber' design aesthetic, including an angular body style and a full-width light bar similar to the company's robotaxi models.
The vehicle will include a SpaceX package featuring cold gas thrusters designed to provide short bursts of acceleration. Elon Musk claims the car will achieve a 0-60 mph time of under one second with the thrusters.
The demonstration vehicle will be operated remotely without a driver due to noise hazards from the thrusters. The car is not expected to be street-legal in this configuration.
Initial 2017 specifications promised a 620-mile range, a top speed exceeding 250 mph, and a base price of $200 000. Customers previously placed deposits of $50 000 for standard models and $250 000 for the Founders Series.
