Tesla has announced a reveal event for the new Roadster scheduled for October 1. The company released a teaser image featuring the electric hypercar with the caption 'Go for launch' and the date '10.01'. A countdown clock on the official Tesla website confirms this timeline.
The vehicle is expected to feature cold gas thrusters developed by SpaceX, which are designed to allow the car to hover. Reports indicate that the planned demonstration will involve a remote-controlled vehicle operating at a distance from spectators due to the high noise levels generated by the thrusters.
The Roadster was originally unveiled as a prototype in November 2017 with a base price of $200,000 and a Founders Series model priced at $250,000. Initial reservation deposits were $50,000 for the standard version and $250,000 for the Founders Series.
Production timelines for the Roadster have been adjusted multiple times since the initial 2020 target. During a shareholder meeting in November 2023, Elon Musk suggested that production might not begin until 2027 or 2028. The company is currently considering a track-only program for the vehicle.
The upcoming demonstration is not expected to represent a street-legal production model. Analysts suggest the event serves to highlight the collaboration between Tesla and SpaceX as the company prepares for potential corporate developments.
