Tesla CEO Elon Musk scheduled the unveiling of the updated Tesla Roadster for October 15, 2026. The vehicle is positioned as a reboot of the original 2006 two-seater model, which was initially introduced at a price of $100,000.
The new iteration of the Roadster is expected to retail for $200,000. The launch event coincides with the 2026 mid-term election cycle in the United States, with Election Day set for November 3.
In the broader electric mobility sector, companies like Alauda Aeronautics and its Airspeeder International Series are developing electric vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) vehicles. Matt Pearson founded the Airspeeder competition in 2018 to accelerate the development of flying electric cars.
Elon Musk previously served as the head of the DOGE budget-cutting office, a position appointed by President Donald Trump at the beginning of 2025. Reports indicate that Musk left this role in May 2025.
