Tesla currently charges $99 per month for its Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology. The company recently removed automatic lane centering as a standard feature from its new vehicles to encourage more users to subscribe to the FSD service.
The automaker has invested billions of dollars in the development of FSD. The system is trained on billions of traffic scenarios using a supercomputer. Since mid-2023, all new Tesla vehicles have been equipped with upgraded cameras and computers to support the latest FSD V14 software.
Tesla refers to the current system as FSD Supervised, as it is not yet fully autonomous. While the company continues to refine the technology, it remains a proprietary system that relies exclusively on cameras, unlike competitors who incorporate lidar and radar sensors.
The company previously opened its Supercharger network to other manufacturers, establishing the North American Charging Standard. There is ongoing discussion regarding whether FSD could eventually follow a similar path toward becoming a universal industry standard for automated driving.
