Tesla has reopened reservations for its next-generation Roadster, requiring a total deposit of $50,000. The process involves an immediate $5,000 credit card payment, followed by a $45,000 wire transfer within 10 days.
This move precedes a scheduled vehicle unveiling on October 1 near Waco, Texas. The event is expected to provide details on final pricing, technical specifications, and production timelines for the new model.
The company previously collected $50,000 deposits for the Roadster in November 2017, promising production by 2020. That project faced at least eight delays, and no units have been delivered to customers to date.
The original 2017 prototype featured a promised 620-mile range, a 0-60 mph time of under 1.9 seconds, and a top speed exceeding 250 mph. Current teasers suggest a design shift toward the aesthetic of the Cybertruck.
Market sentiment remains cautious regarding delivery timelines. On the prediction platform Polymarket, the probability of the Roadster reaching customers by the end of 2026 is currently priced at under 5%.
