Tesla has resumed accepting pre-orders for the second-generation Roadster, a vehicle originally announced by Elon Musk in 2017. The company is once again requiring a total deposit of $50,000 to secure a reservation.
The payment process involves an initial deposit of $5,000 at the time of booking, followed by an additional payment of $45,000 within 10 days. Tesla confirms the reservation only after the full amount is received. If a customer cancels before the second payment, the initial $5,000 is refunded.
The original 2017 announcement promised acceleration to 100 km/h in under 2 seconds, a range of nearly 1,000 km, and a top speed of approximately 400 km/h. Later, Musk suggested additional features such as thrust vectoring and rocket-based acceleration systems.
The production timeline for the Roadster has been repeatedly delayed since the initial 2020 target. Tesla has scheduled a new presentation phase for the vehicle on October 1.
