Tesla has rebranded its Full Self-Driving software to Tesla Assisted Driving on official websites for Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, and Slovakia. This move follows sustained pressure from European regulators who argued that the original branding misled drivers into believing the vehicles could operate without human supervision.

The technical reality remains unchanged as the system performs steering, acceleration, and braking while requiring constant driver attention. The technology does not meet the SAE Level 3 standard, which allows for autonomous operation without continuous oversight. Italian officials specifically noted that the previous marketing implied a higher level of automation than is actually present.

Currently, eight European Union countries have approved the system, with Slovakia expected to follow soon. However, a broader EU-wide decision has been delayed, with a vote postponed from October to at least December. France is currently conducting additional testing, while Sweden has requested a regulatory review of the software's marketing claims.

For Tesla, the software remains a critical component of its long-term business model, which includes robotaxis and recurring revenue streams. The rebranding does not alter the underlying code or functionality of the system but represents a strategic concession to European authorities regarding how the product is presented to consumers.
