Tesla has submitted plans to build a second dedicated charging station for its Robotaxi fleet in Austin, Texas. According to permit documents, the new facility will be located at 2323 Ridgepoint Drive, at an existing sales and service center. The site is designed to support autonomous vehicle operations, ensuring the fleet does not rely on public charging infrastructure.
The project includes the installation of 24 V4 Supercharger stalls. Power for the station will be provided by a 2500 kVA utility transformer and a 4000-amp distribution panel. Unlike previously announced hubs, this location will not feature wireless charging pads, as the current Robotaxi fleet, including modified Model Y vehicles and the Cybercab, utilizes wired NACS charging ports.
The site layout involves converting 29 to 32 existing parking spaces. The facility will also feature mobile bollards for small vehicles and wireless access points on light poles to facilitate direct communication with arriving autonomous vehicles. This follows the recent launch of Cybercab passenger test services in the region.
This facility complements the previously announced large-scale charging hub on East St. Elmo Road, which is planned to host 48 V4 chargers and 80 wireless charging spots. Tesla is establishing a network of dedicated hubs across Austin to manage fleet maintenance, including future plans for automated cleaning robots that will vacuum and sanitize vehicle interiors.
