A family from Washington has filed a lawsuit against Tesla following an incident involving a 2023 Model X. The plaintiffs allege that on June 29, 2023, the vehicle suddenly accelerated while stopped at an intersection in Kirkland, subsequently striking a curb.
The driver, Linh Nguyen, claims the vehicle accelerated without his input and that he was unable to regain control through steering or braking. The lawsuit asserts that the vehicle's assistance system failed to keep the SUV stationary and prevented the driver from intervening.
Nguyen and his daughter reported injuries following the crash. The family is seeking damages from Tesla to cover medical expenses and other losses. The complaint mentions a payment of $15,000 for technology, which the report notes aligns with the price of the Full Self-Driving suite.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has previously investigated 118 reports of sudden acceleration in Tesla vehicles. In cases where event data was available, the agency attributed the incidents to pedal misapplication rather than vehicle faults.
