SpaceX is developing a strategy to establish a communication network across the solar system. According to Vice President Michael Nicholls, the company aims to connect the Moon and Mars using high-speed laser technologies derived from the existing Starlink project. This infrastructure will serve as the foundation for an interplanetary network.
The company emphasizes the necessity of building a secure and coordinated environment in low Earth orbit before expanding to other celestial bodies. SpaceX has already launched a free Space Safety system designed to share orbital data and prevent collisions between satellites, as the company has reported instances of dangerous proximity with other objects.
The long-term vision involves the Starmind constellation, which is projected to include up to 1 million satellites. This initiative is part of a broader goal to support human presence beyond Earth, ensuring that operations in orbit remain safe and scalable as the company increases its satellite density.
