SpaceX is recruiting internal staff to support the construction of its data centers in Memphis, Tennessee, and Southaven, Mississippi. Employees who volunteer for a six-week assignment will receive a 20 percent increase in their base salary or hourly wage.
The initiative aims to accelerate the development of the Colossus 1 and 2 data centers. SpaceX is prioritizing candidates with at least one year of tenure and strong performance records, though management experience is not required. Construction expertise is considered an advantage.
This strategy, referred to as concentrated support, allows the company to reallocate resources for critical projects. SpaceX covers all travel and logistics expenses for participating staff. The company has been offering this 20 percent pay premium for the Memphis project since at least August.
These computing facilities were originally developed by xAI, which was integrated into SpaceX in February. The project is central to Elon Musk's goal of expanding computing power by 10 gigawatts by the end of 2027. A former Starship program executive is leading the expansion.
