South Korea's Ministry of Education has announced stricter penalties for students caught using AI glasses during the annual College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT). Offenders will now face criminal charges for obstruction of public duty, and the ban on retaking the exam will be extended from one year to three years.
The ministry has classified the use of AI glasses as a deliberate and systematic attempt to disrupt national examinations. Officials are urging universities to adopt similar regulations for their own entrance exams, following reports of AI glasses being used in previous admission processes.
Starting with the upcoming CSAT on November 19, each testing center will appoint a dedicated inspector to specifically monitor for AI glasses. The ministry is also establishing a rapid response system with local education authorities to address any suspicious activities during the testing period.
Looking ahead to next year, the ministry plans to evaluate the feasibility of deploying specialized radio frequency detectors to identify unauthorized electronic devices. In July, the government officially added AI-powered devices to the list of prohibited items for civil service examinations.
