Samsung has received approval from the South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for its updated sleep apnea detection algorithm. The new software uses artificial intelligence to track respiratory interruptions per hour, categorizing them into mild, occasional, or frequent levels.

The update will first roll out in November to South Korean users of the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, Galaxy Watch 9, and Galaxy Ring. Subsequent updates are planned for the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch 8 models, provided they operate on Wear OS 7.0 or a later version.

To generate a valid report, the system requires users to record their sleep twice within a 10-day period, with each session lasting at least 5 hours. Samsung notes that these results serve as supplementary information for medical consultations and do not replace professional diagnosis.
