Stockholm-based startup Sortrace has secured approximately $800,000 in a funding round. The investment was led by Almi Invest, with additional support from Antler, Gorilla Capital, and a group of angel investors.
The company, founded by CEO Rahel Surshi and Tomas Kjellstrand, provides AI-driven technology for waste analysis. The system utilizes computer vision and camera sensors mounted on waste collection vehicles to monitor household waste sorting in real time.
The technology converts visual data into structured insights, allowing municipalities to identify specific areas where sorting practices require improvement. This data-driven approach aims to increase recycling rates and reduce waste management costs.
Sortrace ensures data privacy by storing all images within the European Union. The startup currently collaborates with several municipalities and recycling organizations to track waste collection patterns.
The newly raised capital will be used to scale operations to meet rising demand from local authorities. Furthermore, the company plans to extend its technology beyond collection vehicles to cover additional stages of the waste management process.
