Stockholm-based fintech startup SolvaPay is developing payment infrastructure designed to integrate artificial intelligence agents into existing financial systems. The company aims to bridge the gap between autonomous software and traditional banking rails by supporting machine-readable payments and usage-based billing models.
Current financial infrastructure relies on verification methods like 3DS and CVV codes, which are designed to identify human users and block malicious bots. SolvaPay seeks to enable merchants to distinguish between authorized AI agents and fraudulent software while maintaining necessary regulatory compliance, security, and anti-money laundering standards.
The rise of agentic commerce introduces complex transaction chains where one agent may delegate tasks to others, resulting in multiple layers of payments. This creates challenges for financial reconciliation, as current systems are primarily built to process and track individual, human-initiated transactions.
SolvaPay is also addressing the shift toward usage-based billing, where agents pay for specific API calls or datasets rather than traditional monthly subscriptions. The company envisions a future where AI agents can autonomously select payment methods based on specific consumer goals, such as optimizing rewards or miles.
