Ledger has unveiled the Ledger Atom, a device designed to enhance the security of digital assets and verify AI agent actions. The hardware is intended to serve as a secondary device for sensitive operations rather than a primary smartphone replacement.
The device runs on a dual-system architecture combining Android with the proprietary Ledger OS. An FPGA chip manages automatic switching between the standard Android environment and the secure Ledger OS, with a dedicated indicator strip on the screen displaying the active mode.
The hardware is built to isolate secure operations from standard applications, preventing unauthorized access to sensitive data. It supports integration with cryptocurrency exchanges like Kraken and enables management of AI agents via OpenClaw.
Ledger reports that cybercrime damages exceeded $11 billion in 2025, with 158 000 reported hacks of software-based crypto wallets. The company developed the Atom to mitigate risks from malware, software vulnerabilities, and deepfakes.
While the device resembles a standard Android smartphone and supports third-party messaging apps, it lacks cellular voice calling, SMS, and emergency call capabilities.
