The startup Siloton, based in Bristol, secured a €9.98 million contract from Innovate UK. The funding, provided through the Contracts for Innovation: Quantum Missions Primer initiative, will support the development of the company's handheld eye imaging system, GiraffeOCT, over the next two years.

The project aims to accelerate the design and clinical trials of both in-clinic and at-home versions of the device. Siloton expects this support to reduce its development timeline by up to two years. The company plans to collaborate with the Sunderland Specialist Eye Hospital for clinical trials and utilize the York Health Economics Consortium for NHS cost-saving analysis.

Siloton specializes in miniaturized optical technology using photonic chips to perform Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). The company intends to expand its team to 16 employees by August 2028 and plans to raise additional investment to support the development of its second-generation CheetahOCT device.

Founded in 2020, the company previously raised €1.02 million in August 2024 and €558.4k in 2022. Its technology is currently used by clients including the European Space Agency to monitor eye health in space.
