The Irkutsk Aviation Plant is finalizing preparations for the maiden flight of the second serial MC-21-310 aircraft. The jet, bearing factory number MS.0015, is currently undergoing comprehensive ground tests to verify the functionality of all onboard systems and equipment.
Test pilot Evgeny Averyanov confirmed the aircraft is nearly ready for its first departure. Following the ground checks, the crew will conduct taxiing trials on the runway. If these procedures proceed as planned, the aircraft will move to the flight testing phase.
The MC-21 is a next-generation medium-haul passenger jet designed to carry between 163 and 211 passengers. It features a range of 3830 kilometers when configured for 175 passengers. The design incorporates advanced composite wings and is powered by two PD-14 turbofan engines.
This specific unit is intended for the Aeroflot fleet. The aircraft is positioned to compete with the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX models on high-demand routes between major cities.
