The startup Seamoretech, based in Porto, has secured €1.1 million in a funding round. This investment brings the total capital raised by the company to €3 million. The round included participation from Rypples, 7Seas Capital, and Crédito Agrícola, focusing on OceanTech and ClimateTech sectors.
Founded in 2021 by Sofia Delgado and Eva Sousa as a spin-off from the University of Porto, the company develops technology to process brine waste from desalination plants. Its containerized system uses forward osmosis to recover freshwater and minerals like magnesium, calcium, copper, and lithium.
The technology aims to achieve Zero Liquid Discharge, preventing waste from returning to the ocean. According to the company, the system doubles freshwater yield, reduces energy consumption by 50%, cuts operating costs by 30%, and lowers carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional mining.
The new funding will support industrialization and commercial expansion, including a planned launch in Spain next year. Seamoretech is currently building a pipeline of pilot projects in Spain and Egypt. The company plans to open a second closing of its Seed round in the coming months.
