SAP SE introduced new artificial intelligence capabilities at its TechEd conference, focusing on its Joule assistant and Business AI Platform. The updates include new tabular data foundation models and enhanced interoperability for AI agents through open protocols like the Model Context Protocol.
The company is introducing a new orchestration layer to provide a governed gateway for AI agents. This system allows for the integration of third-party data and services while ensuring that agent activities remain under central authority and permission-based control.
SAP is integrating n8n workflow automation into Joule Studio to handle sensitive tasks requiring deterministic logic. This allows agents to trigger event-based workflows that follow exact, predefined sequences, reducing the risk of errors associated with generative AI.
The company expanded its SAP Business Data Cloud with the Ontology Manager and integrated Reltio for multidomain data management. Additionally, it added native support for Apache Iceberg and Apache Polaris through its Dremio acquisition to improve lakehouse capabilities.
New tabular AI models, SAP-RPT-2.0 and SAP-RPT-TS, were launched to support anomaly detection and time-indexed forecasting. SAP is also partnering with Hewlett Packard Enterprise to deploy SAP-RPT on the International Space Station for mission health analysis.
