Samsung has launched a targeted marketing campaign in Canada, featuring mobile advertising trucks in Toronto and Vancouver. The displays show a cracked folding screen alongside the slogan encouraging consumers to switch to the Galaxy Z Fold8. The campaign debuted on Samsung Canada's Instagram and TikTok accounts on October 29.

The advertisements highlight the phrase that folding technology is not new to the company, emphasizing their experience with multiple generations of foldable devices. This initiative follows reports from iPhone Duo users regarding unusual noises near the hinge when unfolding the device, which often lead to cracks or bright lines on the screen.

Apple has acknowledged that a limited number of iPhone Duo units are affected by internal screen issues. The company has advised users to contact AppleCare for potential replacements, though it has not disclosed specific failure rates. The situation has been widely discussed online under the term Crackgate.

Samsung's marketing strategy carries inherent risks, given that its own first-generation Galaxy Fold faced screen durability issues upon its 2019 release. The effectiveness of this campaign depends on whether Apple can resolve the hardware defects quickly or if the technical problems persist, potentially providing Samsung with further promotional opportunities.
