Samsung SDS has officially commenced construction on a 60 MW AI data center located in Gumi, South Korea. The facility, situated on the former site of Samsung Electronics Gumi Plant 1, spans approximately 46,280 square meters. The project is designed to support generative AI, industrial robotics, and cloud computing workloads.

The company has allocated ₩427.3 billion (approximately $319 million) for the development, with board approval granted in January 2026. The infrastructure will feature a hybrid cooling system combining air and liquid cooling to accommodate high-density GPU servers. While the initial capacity is 60 MW, the design allows for future expansion up to 120 MW.

This facility represents the first major project under the broader Samsung Group regional investment plan, which totals ₩60 trillion. The initiative aims to establish the Yeongnam region as a global hub for artificial intelligence innovation. Samsung SDS plans to offer both GPU-as-a-service and colocation services to internal affiliates and external clients.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on November 2, 2026, following construction approvals from Gumi City and North Gyeongsang Province in August 2026. The project timeline anticipates completion by December 2028, with full operations scheduled to begin in March 2029.
