Samsung is reportedly considering a return to its traditional January or February launch schedule for the upcoming Galaxy S27 smartphone series. While the exact release date remains undecided, the company is evaluating its hardware strategy for the new lineup.

Initial plans suggested equipping the standard Galaxy S27 and S27+ models with LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.x storage. Meanwhile, the Pro and Ultra variants were expected to feature upgraded LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5 storage modules to boost performance.

However, Samsung is currently reviewing these plans due to memory market conditions exceeding initial expectations. The company is weighing the potential performance gains against the increased bill of materials costs associated with integrating the new memory and storage standards.

Technical specifications for UFS 5 indicate a theoretical performance doubling compared to UFS 4.1, with read speeds reaching 10.8 GB/s and write speeds up to 9.8 GB/s. Additionally, UFS 5 is expected to offer a 40 percent improvement in energy efficiency.

The LPDDR6 memory standard is projected to provide data transfer rates between 10.6 and 14.4 Gbps per pin. This represents a significant increase over the 8.5 Gbps per pin offered by the current LPDDR5X memory technology.
