SAIC-GM recently issued an official statement warning Cadillac, Buick, and Chevrolet owners about fraudulent SMS messages. Scammers are impersonating the company to claim that vehicles are subject to an airbag recall, threatening to cancel warranty services if owners fail to act.
The fraudulent messages contain links that redirect users to malicious sites designed to steal personal information under the guise of processing recall procedures. SAIC-GM confirmed that it has never sent such messages and has not authorized any third parties to contact customers regarding recalls via SMS, MMS, or social media platforms.
The company has gathered evidence regarding these infringements and intends to pursue legal action against the responsible parties. Owners are advised to remain vigilant, avoid clicking suspicious links, and refrain from providing personal or vehicle data to unverified sources.
This incident follows a series of similar scams targeting other automotive brands in China. Companies including BYD, AITO, BMW China, Volkswagen, and Li Auto have previously issued warnings to their customers regarding fake recall notifications used for telecommunications fraud.
