Rune, legally known as Liitto Technology Inc., secured $40 million in a funding round led by Spark Capital. The company plans to use these funds to expand its market presence and extend its operations from solar power plants to wind farms.

The company introduced its first product, RELIC (Renewable Energy Linked Intelligent Compute), a module designed for AI workloads. Each unit includes up to 1,024 graphics cards, cooling systems, and power management components. Rune states that setup takes about an hour, with systems operational within a few weeks.

RELIC modules are designed for installation directly at solar farms, which eliminates the need for long-haul power transmission lines and transformers. By allowing servers to consume direct current (DC) generated by solar panels, the system reduces infrastructure costs by 85%.

The technology also utilizes unused power generation capacity from solar panels that would otherwise be curtailed by utilities. Rune has already deployed its RELIC system at a 200-megawatt solar facility in Texas to demonstrate the capability of powering AI processing with idle energy.
