Italian AI startup Rulen, previously known as LexSA, has secured €1.8 million in its initial funding round. The investment was led by VC Partners, with contributions from Growth Engine, AME Ventures, Zest, Alpha Venture, and several business angels. The company intends to use the capital to scale its commercial operations, grow its team, and accelerate product development.
The startup focuses on automating tax and accounting workflows through an AI-powered platform. The system integrates with existing software, including the Italian Revenue Agency's records, to handle tasks ranging from data collection to document production. The platform is currently utilized by law firms, tax practices, and multinational corporations.
Rulen aims to address labor shortages in the Italian tax sector, where new professional registrations have dropped by 27.3 percent and those under 40 represent only 15 percent of the workforce. The company is transitioning from an AI research assistant to an agentic platform capable of executing end-to-end workflows independently.
CEO Simone Hong and CTO Claudio Cama stated that the company plans to develop new AI agents for additional tasks. The recruitment strategy will prioritize hiring for sales, marketing, and product roles, alongside adding more tax specialists to the team to support the platform's expansion.
