Rivian has initiated a recall affecting 98,828 vehicles, including the R2 SUV, as well as R1S and R1T models. The action follows a software issue related to the rear-view camera display, which violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
The technical fault occurs when the stability control system is disabled. If a driver shifts into reverse without clearing a specific safety notification on the infotainment screen, the alert obscures the rear-view camera feed.
The recall covers 2,481 R2 units produced between April 23, 2026, and August 10, 2026. Additionally, 62,259 R1S models manufactured from March 30, 2022, to August 6, 2026, and 34,088 R1T trucks built from August 23, 2021, to July 6, 2026, are included.
Rivian identified the problem during internal testing conducted between July and September. The company has already deployed an over-the-air software update to address the issue, which has reached 96 percent of affected R2s and 95 percent of R1S and R1T models.
