Rivian reported record-breaking sales in the third quarter of 2026, delivering 19 248 electric vehicles. This figure represents a 45% increase compared to the same period in 2025. During this quarter, the company produced 19 751 vehicles.

The surge in sales is attributed to the R2 SUV, which launched in June. The vehicle currently starts at a price just under $60 000. Rivian aims to sell between 20 000 and 25 000 units of the R2 by the end of 2026, with plans to introduce cheaper versions priced around $45 000.

The company expects total annual sales to reach between 65 000 and 70 000 vehicles, including the R1 lineup and commercial vans. This would mark the highest annual sales volume in the company's history, surpassing the previous plateau of approximately 50 000 units.

Production of the R2 is currently centered at the Normal, Illinois facility. Additionally, Rivian is constructing a new factory near Atlanta, Georgia, designed for an annual capacity of 300 000 vehicles. The company also partnered with Uber to develop robotaxi versions of the R2.

To prioritize investments in autonomous technology and the R2 infrastructure, Rivian postponed its profitability target from 2027. Full financial results for the third quarter are scheduled for release on October 29.
