Rivian has released software update 2026.36, introducing a Pet Cam feature for R2 owners. This tool allows users to monitor pets inside the vehicle via a live video feed in the Rivian mobile app. The feature utilizes the R2's high-definition RGB interior camera and displays the current cabin temperature on the video stream.
Users can access live footage through the Gear Guard section of the app or view periodic still images on their phone's lock screen. For privacy, occupants can terminate the stream using the center display. The service is part of the Connect+ subscription, which is priced at $14.99 per month or $149.99 per year, and limits streaming to one hour daily.
The update also brings the Rivian AI voice assistant to the R2, four months after the SUV's initial launch. The assistant, which R1 owners have accessed since May, handles climate, media, and navigation controls. It is activated via the steering wheel, the display, or voice commands, and also requires a Connect+ subscription.
While R1T and R1S owners do not receive the Pet Cam, they gain remote control capabilities for Pet Mode. This update allows all owners to toggle Pet Mode on or off remotely through the app. The rollout of version 2026.36 follows the recent integration of R1 and R2 vehicles onto a unified software stack.
