The Burnley municipal authorities have granted Real Big Group permission to convert the underground parking area of the Brunlea Hotel in Lancashire into a data center. The project involves an investment of approximately £12 million, which is equivalent to about $16 million.
The facility will occupy an underground space of roughly 4,000 square meters. According to the submitted documentation, the data center will utilize a closed-loop cooling system. The cooling equipment is expected to be installed either in an enclosed structure on the roof or within the underground level.
The Brunlea Hotel, formerly known as the Keirby Hotel, dates back to 1960. Real Big Group is currently overseeing a major renovation of the property, which is scheduled to reopen as a 32-room luxury hotel in 2027. The permit for the change of use of the parking area was issued in October 2026.
