Comet Cloud is positioning itself to serve small and midsize businesses that struggle to secure GPU capacity from major hyperscalers. While large providers increasingly demand multiyear contracts, Comet Cloud offers dedicated bare metal clusters designed for data isolation, targeting sectors like medical and legal services.
The company currently supplies infrastructure to partners such as the compute marketplace Andromeda. CEO Thomas Kato stated that Comet Cloud aims to reduce costs for Nvidia B300 systems to approximately $4 per hour, compared to the $15 to $20 per hour typically charged by larger cloud providers.
To support its expansion, Comet Cloud has secured 300 acres on the West Coast and initiated a partnership with Dell Technologies. Financing remains a significant hurdle; according to Kato, securing a 48-rack cluster of Nvidia Vera Rubin systems requires between $1 billion and $1.2 billion in contracted revenue.
The company plans to leverage its existing network of payment merchants, which includes a partner serving 50 000 oncology offices, to distribute AI software alongside computing power. The strategy focuses on the shift toward inference tasks, aiming to make AI tools accessible for everyday business operations.
