The ReactOS project has reached a significant milestone in its development by finalizing its custom NTFS file system driver. The team confirmed that the driver is now stable enough to handle system installation and daily operations, including the ability to format NTFS partitions.
Despite this progress, the driver remains a work in progress. Developers noted that the current implementation lacks a caching mechanism, resulting in slower performance compared to other platforms. Additionally, features such as journaling and security support are not yet integrated into the system.
The team acknowledged that potential bugs and undiscovered issues may still exist within the driver. Nevertheless, this achievement marks a critical step toward the long-awaited Beta release of the open-source operating system, which aims to maintain compatibility with the Windows NT architecture.
