Raspberry Pi has officially announced a price increase for its 16GB memory models, citing ongoing industry-wide memory shortages and rising component costs. The announcement was made by Eben Upton via the company's official blog.

The 16GB version of the Raspberry Pi 5 has seen a price hike of $80, bringing its new retail price to $385. In comparison, earlier models in the product line were typically priced between $35 and $60.

Additionally, the 16GB variant of the Compute Module 5 has increased in price by $40. The company noted that the 16GB DRAM lacks alternative supply sources, which, combined with other component shortages, necessitated the adjustment.

Despite these changes, the company stated that the 16GB version of the Pi 500+ will maintain its original price. Raspberry Pi leadership expects the current memory supply constraints to be a temporary, phase-based challenge.
