Seeed Studio and TRMNL have released a DIY e-paper display kit priced at $48. The device features a 7.5-inch monochrome screen with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, powered by an XIAO ESP32-S3 microcontroller. The hardware includes a 2,000 mAh rechargeable battery and a Wi-Fi antenna.

The platform offers three operational modes. Users can utilize the TRMNL hosted service, which requires a $1 trial fee followed by a one-time $50 license. Alternatively, users can opt for the free SenseCraft platform from Seeed or self-host the open-source Terminus container on their own servers for full data control.

TRMNL was founded in 2023 by Ryan Kulp, with its first device launching via crowdfunding in 2024. The partnership between Seeed Studio and TRMNL was officially announced in July 2025, following community interest in running TRMNL firmware on Seeed hardware.

Assembly of the kit requires 3D-printed cases, with official designs available for the triangular prism and L-shaped models. The process involves handling delicate FPC ribbon cables. The device firmware is user-updatable, with recent versions reaching 1.8.18.
