Pure Lithium has announced that its lithium metal battery with an advanced anode successfully completed over 9,315 cycles in laboratory testing. The tests were conducted at a 1C rate with 100% depth of discharge, showing minimal capacity degradation throughout the process.

The company notes that standard lithium-ion batteries typically offer between 250 and 2,000 cycles depending on the specific use case. Pure Lithium claims that its current result is unmatched by other lithium metal battery technologies under similar testing conditions.

According to CEO Emilie Bodoin, the extended cycle life could reduce the levelized cost of energy storage by up to 75%. This performance is intended to support applications in grid-scale storage, data centers, and the electric vehicle sector.

The company previously reported reaching 2,200 cycles in January 2025 under identical testing parameters. Pure Lithium aims to replace traditional graphite anodes with lithium metal to potentially double energy density while simultaneously reducing overall weight and costs.
