OpenAI has developed an internal model capable of solving over 100 long-standing mathematical problems, including the Navier-Stokes and Hodge conjecture Millennium Prize Problems. The model achieved these results after one month of training, which commenced on August 28.

In response to criticism from the mathematical community, OpenAI is establishing an independent Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence. The body will be based at the Institute for Advanced Study and will include prominent figures such as Fields Medalist Timothy Gowers.

The advisory group will operate independently, with members authorized to publish recommendations and speak publicly about the company's impact on the field. However, the group will not have authority over the pace of OpenAI's internal mathematical research and development.

The company stated that the collaboration aims to address the practical implications of mathematical breakthroughs. OpenAI noted that it began focusing on the Millennium Prize Problems after receiving reports that other research teams were close to solving them.
