OpenAI has acquired Glass Imaging, a startup focused on AI-powered camera technology for smartphones. The transaction is valued at more than $300 million, representing approximately a 10x return on the total capital raised by the startup.
Glass Imaging was established in 2019 by former Apple engineers Ziv Attar and Tom Bishop in Los Altos, California. The company developed GlassAI, a Neural ISP system designed to enhance mobile camera performance by correcting lens aberrations and sensor issues without creating generative hallucinations.
The startup's technology has been integrated into Honor smartphones and supports real-time video enhancement. Before the acquisition, Glass Imaging raised a total of approximately $31.5 million. This included a $2.2 million initial round in 2022, a $9.3 million seed extension in 2024 led by GV, and a $20 million Series A round led by Insight Partners in May 2025.
This acquisition continues OpenAI's recent strategy of corporate expansion. The company previously acquired io for approximately $6.5 billion and Statsig for $1.1 billion. Investors including GV and Insight Partners are expected to see significant returns from the exit, particularly given the timing of the Series A investment.
