OpenAI has acquired Orchestra Bio Inc., a startup focused on AI agents for drug development. The Orchestra team and its technology will integrate into OpenAI’s Rosalind life sciences division. The acquisition aims to address inefficiencies in the pharmaceutical industry, where drug approval processes currently span 10 to 15 years.
Orchestra’s software monitors clinical trials, manages financial tracking, and resolves scheduling conflicts. In the event of manufacturing issues, the agents analyze impacts on project timelines and propose solutions for human review. OpenAI has not disclosed the financial terms of the deal or a timeline for product integration.
The Rosalind unit, which launched in April with the GPT-Rosalind model, already collaborates with companies like Novo Nordisk A/S and Moderna Inc. These partners use the platform to accelerate research and plan experiments. This acquisition follows OpenAI’s January purchase of Torch Health Inc. to develop ChatGPT Health.
Founded in 2022 by Ashoka Rajendra in San Francisco, Orchestra Bio previously raised $20 million from investors including Andreessen Horowitz, 8VC, and Insight Venture Management. The startup officially launched in August 2025, offering software designed to assist biotech founders with financial management and long-term strategic planning.
